When you make a donation to our endowment you give a lasting and powerful resource. Endowment donations are permanently invested to allow for growth of principal. A portion of the income from the investment is used each year to address immediate needs for Baystate Health. The remaining funds continue to grow and ensure support from one generation to the next.
Here's a Potential Scenario
Longtime supporters Terry and Steve want to make sure Baystate Health continues to be an innovator in health care advances long after they're gone. They also want to memorialize Steve's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrews. They decide to make a gift of $100,000, payable over five years, to Baystate Health to establish The Howard and Michelle Andrews Fund for Cancer Care.
Terry and Steve enjoy a federal income tax deduction on their gifts each year and we invest their gift. Once the fund is established, a portion of the income is put to use each year to ensure that patients who rely on use for cancer care continue to have access to cutting edge technology and procedures and to physicians with the skills to deliver the best possible care. The principal of the fund continues to grow; that is what allows it to support us—and honor Steve's parents—for generations to come.
